What is Summer Edge?

SUMMER EDGE is Rutgers University-Newark's High School Student summer program. Summer Edge is a unique opportunity for high school students to experience campus life, get to know our faculty and staff, and meet other highly motivated students while getting an edge up on their classmates. Summer Edge is a commuter program and is open to high school students currently completing 9th, 10th, or 11th grade.

How to Apply

The 2018 High School Student Application opened on  Monday, February, 12. High school students completing grades 9, 10, or 11 by June 2018 are invited to submit an application to the program through The Office of Summer & Winter Sessions Application Portal. First time users who do not have a NetID, must create a new account. Once an account is created, a list of applications will become available. Complete and submit the Summer Edge, High School Student Application. Please upload a copy of your high school transcript and/or recommendation letter from a guidance counselor, instructor, advisor, or faculty member.

Areas of Study for Courses

RU-N Summer Edge allows you to create your own schedule. We offer a variety of morning, afternoon, and evening face-to-face courses, or enroll in one of our online or hybrid courses. Summer Edge participants are encouraged to enroll in Session II which meets during the high school summer break (July 9 - August 15).

I got accepted! Now what?

Congratulations! You are taking college classes as a high school student and are officially getting an EDGE up on your peers! Follow the steps below to confirm your attendance and prepare yourself for the first day of class. Welcome to Rutgers! 

  • Pay Your Term Bill
    • At Rutgers, students must pay their term bill to confirm their attendance. You may pay online on in-person at the Cashier's Office. Tuition is a per-credit rate based on New Jersey residency status and the school offering the course you are registered for. More information on tuition and fees can be found here.
  • Activate Your NetID
    • Please wait 24hrs after you pay your term bill to activate your NetID and Rutgers email address. Keep a record of your NetID it will be very important at Rutgers. In order to access many of the electronic services provided at Rutgers, including Blackboard, you will need to activate your NetID.   • RUID Card
    • Submit a photo to be included on your RUID Card. A NetID and Rutgers email is required to receive an RUID card. RUID cards allow entrance into parking decks, the Golden Dome Athletic Center, are used at computer labs to print, and more.
