High School Students | Rutgers University

What is Summer Edge?

SUMMER EDGE is Rutgers University-Newark's High School Student summer program. Summer Edge is a unique opportunity for high school students to experience campus life, get to know our faculty and staff, and meet other highly motivated students while getting an edge up on their classmates. Summer Edge is a commuter program and is open to high school students currently completing 9th, 10th, or 11th grade.

How to Apply

The 2022 High School Student Application will open on March 1. High school students completing grades 9, 10, or 11 by June 2022 are invited to submit an application to the program through The Office of Summer & Winter Sessions Application Portal. First time users who do not have a NetID, must create a new account. Once an account is created, a list of applications will become available. Complete and submit the Summer Edge, High School Student Application. Please upload a copy of your high school transcript and/or recommendation letter from a guidance counselor, instructor, advisor, or faculty member.

Rutgers students, including visiting students, are required under Policy 10.3.14 to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have received an approved medical or religious exemption. Students must upload their vaccination documentation on the Rutgers Student Immunization portal prior to registration.

I got accepted! Now what?

Congratulations! You are taking college classes as a high school student and are officially getting an EDGE up on your peers! Follow the steps below to confirm your attendance, immunization requirements, registration, and prepare yourself for the first day of class. Welcome to Rutgers!

1. Activate Your NetID

All students are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID which is comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g. jqs23).  Your NetID is not the same as your RUID.  To activate your Rutgers NetID visit netid.rutgers.edu. If you need assistance please contact the Help Desk (973)353-5083 or help@newark.rutgers.edu.

2. Immunization Requirement

All students planning to register for Summer Session 2022 are required under Policy 10.3.14 to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have received a medical or religious exemption approved in writing by Rutgers' Waiver Review Committee or are exempt from the Policy for any of the other reasons listed in the Policy.

To submit your proof of vaccination or to request an exemption visit the Rutgers Student Immunization Portal.  A valid student NetID and password is required to access the portal, please wait 24 hours after activating your NetID to proceed with uploading your Immunization Upload Requirement. Please make sure to choose “Rutgers University” for your home organization in the portal.  For more information and important resources, please visit the following helpful links: How to Upload Covid Vaccination Card, RU-N COVID-19 Vaccination Information, and NetID Activation/Password Reset.

PLEASE NOTE: After a student uploads proof of vaccination to the Rutgers Student Immunization portal, it may take 24 business hours or longer. All uploads of COVID 19 vaccination cards will need to verified before students can be registered. Please check your Student Immunization Portal for messages and updates regarding your compliance.

3. Registration

Once Rutgers University Records confirm a Summer Edge Student is compliant with the Immunization Requirement, students will be registered into their course.  Students will receive communication through the Summer and Winter Application Portal (SWAP).

To verify your registration, please visit WebReg, https://sims.rutgers.edu/webreg/pacLogin.htm, using your RUID and your PAC number. Your PAC number is comprised of the four digits representing the month and date of your birth. For example, if you were born on November 7, your PAC # would be 1107.

4. Pay Your Term Bill

To view your term bill, pay, and manage your account online, go to https://finservices.rutgers.edu/otb.  Select the RUID Login option and enter your RUID and PAC #.  More information on tuition and fees can be found here.

5. RUHere

All students must complete the RUHere process for Summer Session. Please note that your registration is not complete until both tuition payment and the RUHere process have been completed.  Please click here for RUHere campaign dates.

6. RUID Card

After your NetID is activated you will be able to set up ScartletApp services and manage your Rutgers email addresses. Once you have activated your NetID and your Rutgers email account, go to http://iam-ipo.rutgers.edu/photosub.php to submit a photo to appear on your Rutgers University Identification Card (RUID Card).  The photo will be reviewed and approval will be sent to your Rutgers email.  Your RUID Card will be available for pick-up 24 hrs. after you have uploaded your photo.  Contact Photo ID Services to pick up your RUID.  A Rutgers ID is required for access to the computer labs, Golden Dome gym, Dana Library, and other facilities.
