COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Seminar in Teaching is designed to provide a framework for those new to teaching (or who will be new to teaching) history and for those already engaged in it to deepen their knowledge of both content and pedagogy in the social studies and in the science and arts of teaching and learning. Students will be able to 'workshop'  projects and curricula they may be challenged by or want to design as well as be supported in strengthening their current teaching of NJ content and standards.  Students will also do some public history work that can transfer into the classroom, and engage in work around current questions and topics in the state of the field and the state of New Jersey, such as the just-passed legislation to teach LGBT history. Classes will meet on campus with some opportunity for site visits, museum work, and other experiences based on needs and interests of the students enrolled.
