PATHOPHYSIOLOGY (3 cr.) By permission only. T5 Section for accelerated 2nd degree students and RNs only. Focuses on the pathophysiology of common conditions affecting humans across the life span. PHARMACOTHERAPEUTICS (3 cr.) T5 Section for accelerated 2nd degree students and RNs only, and by permission only. Emphasis on the nurse's role in the administration of safe and therapeutically effective drug therapy. Major drug classifications are discussed in relation to administration methods, pharmacologic effects, toxicity, and nursing precautions and implications. Drug therapy is discussed in relation to life span development changes, religious preferences, and cultural mores. COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING (3 cr.) By permission only. Accelerated 2nd degree students only. COREQUISITE: Nursing Care in the Community, 705:445. Focuses on the theoretical and scientific knowledge relevant to the nursing care of culturally diverse families, aggregates, and communities. Emphasis on knowledge pertinent to health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention. Nursing strategies pertaining to the management of illness and symptoms of the families, aggregates, and communities will be discussed. NURSING INFORMATICS (3 cr.) Focuses on the analysis and development of computer programs for nursing. Topics include computer systems, information systems, computer-based education, decision making with computers, and artificial intelligence. Development of computer literacy skills and computer applications in nursing practice. LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT IN NURSING (3 cr.) By permission only. Accelerated 2nd degree students only. COREQUISITE: Senior Experience in Leadership & Management, 705:499. Focuses on the knowledge necessary to negotiate successfully the transition from the role of student to graduate nurse. Course experiences require the student to synthesize and apply learning from previous courses within a variety of complex situations. Emphasis on anticipating the form of an evolving health care delivery system and its complementary provider roles, theoretical foundations for change and leadership, conceptual models, managerial skills, and sensitivities necessary for contemporary practice. Political ScienceDepartment of Political Science TOPICS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE: MASS MEDIA & POLITICS (3 cr.) This course provides a comprehensive survey of mass media's role in politics and the impact of the political environment on the press. It investigates the major media platforms (print, radio, television, and the Internet) and how each shape political culture. While the scope of the course is global, much attention is paid to the American media landscape. Other regions to be covered include the former Soviet Union, the Arab World, East Asia, and Europe. Special topics to be explored include: news management, transnational media empires, the CNN effect, infotainment, "fake news," the mass-mediation of terrorism, and Al-Jazeera. RESEARCH METHODS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE (3 cr.)
