EVE: 5/26-7/2
MW 6:00-9:45
AGATE           CONKLIN 454

Taught in English.

This course focuses on both the practical and theoretical aspects on literary translation. It is centered on the translation workshop, where students get the opportunity to share works they love by translating them into English, and then presenting these translations-in-progress for peer review and feedback from their instructor and classmates. Students will also spend time learning about the politics behind translation, reading reviews, articles and essays that explore our preconceptions about nations, cultures, literatures and languages alike.

Workshop/seminar participants should have a solid command of the English language and upper-level skills in their chosen “source” language. They should also have an open-minded and respectful attitude, be keen to discover new literatures from other countries, and be willing to share both their opinions and their ideas.

The course will culminate in the online publication of student translations.
