College of Nursing ADVANCED PATHOPHYSIOLOGY (3 cr.) HUMAN DIVERSITY & SOCIAL ISSUES IN THE COMMUNITY (3 cr.) By permission only. Open to non-matriculated students. Advanced nursing practice examined from epidemiological perspective in the context of cultural and social pluralism. Emphasis on multiple dimensions of human diversity, with identification and assessment of vulnerable and underserved populations and ethical issues. NURSING RESEARCH METHODS (3 cr.) By permission only. Development of skills in the application of principles and methods of scientific research. How to identify and conceptualize a research problem that is relevant to nursing and then formulate testable hypotheses. Emphasis on research designs and methodologies, the psychometric properties of instruments, sampling techniques, methods of data analysis, and interpretation of research findings. Focus on the scientific merit of empirical studies and ethical and legal considerations. PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL & PSYCHOSOCIAL FOUNDATIONS IN ADVANCED 26:705:513:T5:94805 By permission only. Focus on biologic and behavioral theories and research from a variety of disciplines, including nursing for application of psychiatric assessment in primary-care settings. Analyzes research and makes case studies for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders across the life span. Works within a developmental framework that examines the manifestations of psychiatric illnesses in children, adolescents, adults and the aged. PHARMACODYNAMICS FOR PRIMARY CARE (3 cr.) By permission only. Open to non-matriculated students. Designed to meet the needs of nurses in advanced practice who are eligible for prescriptive privileges. Focuses on the pharmacological management of self-limited episodic complaints and stable chronic disease states across the life span commonly managed by advanced practice nurses. HEALTH PROMOTION DESIGN PRACTICUM (3 cr.) This practicum focuses on the applications of knowledge essential to advanced practice nursing with populations, aggregates, and individuals/families in the community. The focus of this course is on the development and utilization of data sets as a basis for the design of health promotion programs and services. MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH DATA (3 cr.) By permission only. PREREQUISITE: Descriptive & Inferential Statistics & Research Methods (Master's Level). Students create and manage quantitative data to assess health needs, evaluate health outcome data, and test hypotheses and research questions using descriptive and inferential statistics. Includes assumptions underlying various methods, interpretation, and statistical methods using spreadsheets and a statistical software package. Basic concepts for creating and editing computer files and computer methods taught, with emphasis on application. CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN NURSING (2 cr.) By permission only. Selected issues and research in nursing education, nursing administration, and nursing practice. Public AdministrationSchool of Public Affairs & Administration TOPICS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: ANIMAL CRUELTY (3 cr.) This course examines the legal perspective on cruelty laws, links between cruelty to animals and cruelty to humans, domestic restraining orders and animals, intra-agency reporting, student rights to refuse dissection, farm animal cases, wildlife, animals in entertainment, and other cruelty issues. TECHNOLOGY & PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION (3 cr.) STRATEGIC PLANNING, BUDGETING, & CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT (3 cr.) This online course focuses on the intellectual concept of governmental transparency. Using Blackboard, students will explore key policies in support of transparency as well as critically evaluate e-governance practices to identify some of the limitations and dangers involved with the rapidly changing role of information and information technology in today's society.
