Can I attend Summer Session at Rutgers-Newark?
Yes. You do not need to be a student at Rutgers University, or at any other college, in order to attend Summer Session at Rutgers-Newark. Please complete the Visiting Student Registration Form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar.
If you wish to continue at Rutgers-Newark during the Fall or Spring semesters, you must contact the Office of Admissions. For more information visit, http://admissions.rutgers.edu.
If I am not a Rutgers University student, do I need to supply transcripts or test scores to attend Summer Session?
No. All you need to do is submit the Visiting Student Registration Form to the Office of the Registrar.
Can I use the Rutgers Online Web Registration System (WEBREG) if I'm a visiting student?
Yes. After you have submitted your Visiting Student Registration Form (allow 2 days for data entry) you may access WEBREG by entering your RUID or Social Security number and Personal Access Code (PAC) to log-in. Your PAC is the month and date of birth (ex: 1106 for November 6).

How do I obtain my Rutgers University Identification (RUID) number?
If you are a visiting student you must first submit your Visiting Student Registration Form to the Office of the Registrar. After submitting your form you may visit, Rutgers ID Query, and enter your Social Security number or NetID to obtain your RUID number.
If you are a current Rutgers student visit My Rutgers, and enter your NetID in order to obtain your RUID number.
How can I check my schedule after I have registered?
You can log onto WEBREG to check your schedule.
I am a student at another college. Are there special arrangements I should make to attend in the summer?
You should check the transferability of each course with the appropriate official from your own college before you register. Rutgers University is not responsible for the amount or kind of credit granted by another institution for any course taken at Rutgers University.
How do I transfer my Summer Session credits to my home school?
By requesting a transcript be sent to your home school. Transcript request forms are available at the Office of the Registrar at 249 University Avenue, Blumenthal Hall, 3rd Floor, Newark, NJ 07102 or online.
Can high school students take summer courses at Rutgers-Newark?
Yes. High school students completing 10th or 11th grade by June 2008 may take summer courses. In order to enroll, high school students are required to submit a copy of their high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or high school faculty member, and a completed Visiting Student Registration Form. If I am a visiting student taking a summer course, am I required to pay a student fee?
Yes. All Summer Session students are required to pay the student fee. This fee allows you to use the computer labs, Dana Library, and the Golden Dome Athletic Center.
Do I need a campus ID card?
No. If you are a visiting student a receipted term bill may be used as a valid ID.
Did you receive my Visiting Student Registration Form?
Please contact the Office of the Registrar, 973/353-5324, to confirm receipt of your registration form.
Can I send someone to Rutgers-Newark to register for me?
Yes. Students may send a representative to the Office of the Registrar to register for them. The representative must have all registration information necessary for the completion of the Visiting Student Registration Form. Please review the Summer Session Registration Calendar for payment deadlines that may be applicable at time of registration and the Tuition, Payment & Financial Aid Information section for detailed payment instructions.
Is there a maximum number of credits I can take in the summer?
Students are permitted to take up to 14 credits during the summer. Visiting students who wish to take more than 14 credits will need special permission from the Office of Summer & Winter Sessions. Rutgers students wishing to take more than 14 credits during the summer must get permission from their academic dean.
Can I audit a course?
Only visiting students may audit a course. To audit a course enter an "N" in the "Credit Hour Prefix" column of the registration form. You will be expected to do all the course work, except the final exam, and will be assigned a grade of "S" or "U." The course and grade will appear on your transcript. Students opting for audit registration must do so at the time of registration and pay the regular tuition and fees.
How do I withdraw/drop a course?
You must withdraw from a course by the date specified in the Summer Session Registration Calendar for each individual summer session. In order to withdraw, you must file a Change of Course Form at the Office of the Registrar, 249 University Avenue, Blumenthal Hall, 3rd Floor or by using WEBREG. Once a session begins, all withdrawals for that session must be done in person at the Office of the Registrar.
What happens if I do not attend the class I registered for?
You are still responsible for all tuition and fees (see FAQ listed above) unless you file a Change of Course Form. You must withdraw from any courses you do not wish to take before the first day of the session to avoid any penalties.
Can I get a refund if I withdraw from a course?
Tuition refunds are made only when a student withdraws from their course(s) during the designated refund periods. The periods are listed for each session in the Summer Session Registration Calendar. In order to receive a full refund of tuition and fees, a student must cancel his/her registration prior to the first day of class.
If I drop a class will a "W" appear on my transcript?
Yes. To avoid receiving a "W" grade on your transcript you must withdraw from the course prior to the first day of the session the course is being offered in.
May I change courses once a session begins?
Yes. There is a change of course period the first week of each session. You may only change courses within the same session. Please see the Summer Session Registration Calendar for specific dates. All add/drops must be done in person.
Where can I get my reading list information/syllabus for my class?
You can contact the department that is offering the course to obtain this information.
How do I get my grades at the end of the session?
Once your instructor(s) has submitted your grade(s) to the Office of the Registrar you will be able to access them at, https://www.acs.rutgers.edu/grades* (a NetID is necessary to access this system, to create a NetID please visit Rutgers ID Query) or by contacting the Office of the Registrar.
How do I arrange for housing?
All questions concerning summer housing should be directed to the Office of Housing & Residence Life, 973/353-1037.
Are recreational facilities available?
All students enrolled in Summer Session may use the Rutgers-Newark swimming pool, tennis, racquetball, and basketball courts, and outdoor track. For more information regarding hours and access, contact the Golden Dome Athletic Center, 973/353-5474.
