ACADEMIC POLICY & PROCEDURES
Each student bears a fundamental responsibility for maintaining academic integrity and intellectual honesty in his or her academic work. For example, all students are expected to observe the generally accepted principles of scholarly work, to submit their own work, to refrain from falsifying data, and to refrain from receiving and/or giving aid on examinations or other assigned work requiring independent effort. In submitting written material, the writer takes full responsibility for the work as a whole and implies that, except as properly noted by use of quotation marks, footnotes, etc., both the ideas and the words used are his or her own. Failure to abide by the rules of scholarship is academically dishonest.
The Office of Summer & Winter Sessions will consider appeals that are related to the following registration and/or payment transactions:
- Late Fee Waiver
- Late Registration
- 100% Tuition Refund
- Withdrawal with a 50% Refund
Appeals must be formally submitted through the Summer & Winter Sessions Application Portal. First time users must create an account and then select Appeal Form which can be found under Available Applications. Students are strongly encouraged to submit supporting documentation. University deadlines, costs, and policies are accepted by students upon registration. Students can view the complete Appeal Policy here.
Students are expected to attend all scheduled course meetings, although no special provisions are normally made for reporting occasional absences from class. It is the policy of Rutgers University to excuse without penalty students who are absent because of religious observance, and to allow the makeup of work missed because of such absences. A student absent from an examination because of required religious observance will be given an opportunity to make up the examination without penalty.
All Summer Session students are required to have access to a Rutgers e-mail account and a Rutgers University NetID. Visiting students may activate a ScarlettApps services here. and can activate their NetID here.
The maximum credit load is 14 credits for the entire Summer Session. Visiting, non-RU students who wish to take more than 14 credits will need special permission from the Office of Summer & Winter Sessions. Rutgers University students wishing to take more than 14 credits during the summer must obtain permission from their respective academic dean.
Students taking six or more credits in Summer Session will be considered full-time. Any load less than six credits is considered part-time. For Rutgers graduate students 4.5 credits are considered full-time and those taking less than 4.5 credits are considered part-time. Financial aid definitions of full-time/part-time may differ. Please see the financial aid website’s summer aid section to ascertain how your enrollment effects your eligibility for summer financial aid funding.
Grades & Records
Students are graded at the end of each course by the following symbols:

Students who have not completed registration by the dates specified in the Summer Session Registration Calendar may register in person with the Office of the Registrar during the late registration period. Students who register and pay their summer term bill during the late registration period will be assessed a $125.00 late fee.
The symbol “N” preceding a course credit indicates that no credit is earned toward the degree and no grade is computed in the grade-point average. The course and grade appear on the student’s transcript.

Obtaining Your RUID
If you are a current Rutgers University student visit My Rutgers, and enter your NetID in order to obtain your RUID number.
If you are a visiting student you must first submit a Registration Inquiry Form. After your form has been processed, you will receive an email with your RUID and registration instructions.

Rutgers University treats acts of plagiarism, cheating, or other forms of academic dishonesty as disciplinary matters. Procedures for dealing with these matters are set forth in the University Student Disciplinary Hearing Procedure. Please refer to the appropriate catalog for specifics
Services Withheld for Unsatisfied Financial Obligations to the University
In accordance with University procedures, no student or former student may obtain a transcript of academic record while under financial obligation to Rutgers University.
If a student has financial obligations that total $100 or more, registration will be denied.

Rutgers University complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and makes public announcement of the law.

Transfer of Credit to Another Institution
Rutgers University cannot be responsible for the amount or kind of credit that will be granted by another institution for any course taken at Rutgers. You must confirm course transferability with your home institution prior to registration. Transcript request forms are available at the Office of the Registrar or on online.
Students must officially withdraw from a course prior to the start of Summer Session in order to obtain a full refund. Students are responsible for dropping courses that they do not plan to attend. Do not anticipate that Rutgers University will automatically withdraw you from a class due to non-payment or non-attendance. You must withdraw from your classes via WEBREG or by submitting a Change of Course Form to the Office of the Registrar by the dates listed on the Summer Session Registration Calendar. All withdrawals must be done in person once the session begins. In addition, the student will be responsible for tuition and fees. If for any reason you are unable withdraw using WEBREG you will need to visit the Office of the Registrar in person. It is the student’s responsibility to check their account to be sure that courses are dropped. Any student who withdraws from a class after the first meeting time will have a “W” recorded on his/her transcript.
